Issues Caused By Seagulls

Gulls might seem like majestic birds, but they can also be a nuisance, especially in tourist areas. They are scavengers and regularly scare tourists in their search for food. Their droppings can also cause a health and safety issue for commercial sites, as they can spread diseases, transmit parasites and can even be a trip hazard. As such, seagulls can be a major issue for commercial and domestic properties.

In Northern Ireland, gull breeding season is between March to September. During breeding and nesting season, it is illegal, under the Wildlife and Natural Environment Act (Northern Ireland) 2011, to kill gulls or disturb their nests.

As such, we only have a small window between September and March to carry out seagull pest control. During this time, we can remove empty nests and use various bird control methods to deter the birds and ensure you don’t face another seagull problem on your site.

Even if you haven’t previously dealt with pest seagulls, we can carry out gull proofing to ensure that they can’t access your property. From bird proofing solar panels for homes to carrying out bird control at commercial sites, Flytech provides expert gull control solutions across Belfast, Lisburn, Antrim, Newtownards, Bangor, Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey, and beyond. Call 07955 008274 to book a site visit today.

Our Seagull Control Process

1

Contact

When you contact Flytech, a member of our team will discuss your requirements and arrange a site visit at a convenient time.

2

Site Survey

During the appointment, we will discuss the building and any current seagull problems you’re facing, then provide you with a list of effective methods that can deter gulls.

3

Gull Management

Once we’ve agreed on the most effective means of keeping gulls away from your property, we will get to work. Outside of breeding season we can carry out nest removal for empty nests, but cannot disturb live nests with eggs or young gulls.

4

Sanitisation

After we’ve carried out bird proofing to stop gulls gaining access to your space, we will also remove any debris and droppings to ensure the area is clean and ready for use. We also decontaminate the area as gulls and other birds carry dangerous diseases in their guano and nests.

Gull Proofing Methods

At Flytech, we have a range of gull deterrents to scare seagulls and keep them away from your property. The most popular options are:

Gull Netting

Bird netting is a popular solution as it creates a physical barrier between birds and your property. It can be used for a variety of sites, and helps to keep gulls and other nuisance birds away. When installed correctly, bird netting can last for many years with minimal maintenance.

Seagull Spikes

Seagull spikes might look ferocious, but they are actually made from either stainless steel or polycarbonate (a hard plastic), and aren’t sharp enough to harm birds. Instead, bird spikes act as a visual deterrent and make it uncomfortable for birds to perch on ledges, making them look for somewhere else.

Bird-Free Optical Gel

Optical gel deterrents interfere with a bird’s olfactory senses; sight, smell and touch. Also known as ‘fire gel’, the product leads them to believe that there is fire below. It also contains the scent of peppermint oil and is sticky if they touch it. As a result, it is a highly successful and discreet method of gull control for light-trafficked areas such as balconies, roof lines and window sills.

Alongside the above methods, we also have other gull control solutions, including audio deterrents to modify seagull behaviour and get them to look for somewhere else to roost. We always tailor our solutions to your specific needs, so contact us to book your site survey today.

Get Rid Of Seagulls Fast With Flytech

The term ‘seagull’ refers to several breeds of gulls, including Herring Gulls, Common Gulls and others.

These large birds can be incredibly destructive in their search for food, and are also disruptive, especially during breeding season.

Gulls have even been known to dive at people in their quest to steal food. As such, they’re not ideal for commercial sites, as they can be off putting and cause a health risk for visitors.

For homes, they can cause a disturbance, as they, like pigeons, often like to nest under solar panels.

Whatever issue you’re facing, it’s important that you get rid of seagulls fast and within the law. That means putting control measures in place before the breeding season starts.

Flytech operates throughout Northern Ireland and offers effective seagull control that will ensure your property is protected for many years to come. If you’re ready to get a bespoke seagull control plan, call 07955 008274.
